I would like to thank everyone for getting behind MND Week by sending in your photos and quotes as part of our MND Week celebrations. The sense of community that they generated was both moving and humbling to watch as each image and story was revealed. We are a strong community and together we can and do make a difference in each other’s lives.
If there are any positives to come out of the current COVID-19 situation then perhaps it’s the deft way in which organisations have moved to revamp their services, particularly in moving things to an online platform. It’s been wonderful to be able to speak with our GP’s and other health professionals by phone enabling us all to resolve simple medical matters or to organise new or repeat scripts. Especially as we can then have those transferred electronically to the pharmacy and delivered to us by Australia Post without leaving the house! I don’t know how many long trips we have all made in the past to sit for hours in a waiting room to see a doctor for 5 mins just to get a script or discuss a minor issue. I hope this is one of the things that remains once we are through the current health issue. It’s not only convenient but makes sense and keeps people safe from all sorts of things, not just COVID – 19.
We have been working hard to keep information moving through Facebook and our Blog. If you haven’t connected to us yet, then please bookmark these pages as they are updated regularly. We recently posted a document which provides links to a number of organisations with details of their current operating arrangements. We also included a number of ‘boredom buster’ links for places you can visit online. It is remarkable how many museums, galleries, zoos etc who have opened up their virtual doors for us all to explore. If you have trouble locating, email us at
The Support Services team are continuing to provide services and have even expanded our NDIS Coordination of Support Service while also managing to keep our FlexEquip service delivering equipment to the people who need it. Our MND Advisors too have been busy with a steady increase in new members over the past couple of months. This has also seen calls to our MND Information Line also increase. I am very proud of what the team have been able to achieve despite the restrictions and rapidly changing environment.
Stay Safe
