We’d like to thank the Stock Feed Manufacturers Council of Australia (SFMCA) and the Grain Industry Association of Victoria (GIAV) for their amazing fundraising efforts in support of MND research. They held a golf day in July, raising over $21,000!
Fiona Taylor, event organiser, gave an overview of the event:
“On the 2&3 July, SFMCA’s Vic committee, led by Megan McKenzie joined forces with GIAV to host a very special day of tribute to Duncan Rowland in Yarrawonga.
Absolutely crushing attendance records for this meeting, 155 people came together to celebrate Duncan and raised a whopping $21,006 for research towards a cure for MND.
Huge thanks to golfing aficionados Malcolm Mottram (Feedworks) and Dominic Hogan (Outlook Commodities) who put in many hours to run the inaugural Charity Golf Day.
With Duncan in the drinks buggy, a full course of players, ample beer & soft drink, plenty of wayward shots and laughs, the event was a standout and is set to become a permanent fixture on the SFMCA & GIAV calendars.
As day moved to night we progressed to our industry dinner with beautiful tributes to Duncan as well as an auction. Conditional bidding lead to hilarious debate over which feed producer is the best producer in the state, country and world! If the amount of bids is the ultimate measure then Southern Stockfeeds certainly took the crown! Well done to auctioneer Dominic Hogan for surviving the antics and providing the laughs. Also to Cam Russell for being a great sport as we surprisingly auctioned off his framed “Lucky Jocks” to raise some laughter and a whopping $150!! A great day was had by all!
Our heartfelt thanks go to the sponsors FeedWorks, Elanco, Graymont, Greenoaks Agriculture, Ikon Commodities, AusPac Ingredients, Lallemand, International Animal Health Products, Reid Stockfeeds, Andritz, Phibro Animal Health, BEC, Kinross Farms, Rex James Stockfeed, dsm-firmenich, Redox, Kemin and The Alfa Tight Five. Their generosity in getting behind this cause spoke volumes about the great corporate citizens they are. Special thanks also to The Sebel Yarrawonga and others for their auction item donations.
The Charity Golf Day was the second of three fundraising events we have planned. The Advancing Milling & Nutrition Conference held in Melbourne May 2025 raised $3950; whilst the Food with Purpose Conference being held on the Gold Coast has confirmed Fight MND as it’s official charity in May 2026.
For over 8 years Duncan has worked 70-80 hrs per week for SFMCA and FIAAA and has achieved significant milestones for our industry. Representing Australia on an international level at the International Feed Industry Federation, he has been instrumental in driving teams on Circular Economies and Sustainability.
The increased resources Duncan has implemented on home soil means that our industry moves forward with a strong foundation and will continue to go from strength to strength. Recently awarded SFMCA Life Membership Duncan’s legacy continues as his work is woven into our everyday processes and outcomes.
With laughter, tears and comradery, the SFMCA & GIAV Charity Golf Day was a very special day celebrating Duncan and his achievements.
Driven by his work mates, the Duncan Rowland Perpetual Golf Charity Day will continue to feed the fight towards a cure in the years to come.
