National Volunteer Week 2026

For National Volunteer Week 2026, we'd like to shine the spotlight on everyone who gives us their time and effort to help us support people living with MND.

Thank you to our many volunteers who continue to provide valuable support to MND NSW. Each and every one has made a difference, and we are grateful for the time, support and assistance they provide. We cannot do all we do without their help.

In the past financial year, we have had:

• Over 171 volunteers shifts and a total of 584 hours worked
• Over 60 volunteers assisting at our Walk to Defeat MND events in NSW, ACT and NT
• 10 Administration and IT volunteers providing much needed admin support to staff in our Gladesville office from stocktake, packing merchandise and letters to sorting through IT equipment in the building
• 13 volunteers assisting our support services team at various support group meetings, Day of Hope and Remembrance event and even maintaining and sorting through banners
• Over 60 gardening hours maintaining our Gladesville office
• Various Volunteers have assisted at events in NSW and ACT hosting merchandise stalls or representing MND NSW as Ambassadors

Together with the support from our volunteers, we can continue to help people living with Motor Neurone Disease by raising awareness and much needed funds for MND NSW.

Here's what some of our MND NSW team members had to say about our wonderful volunteers:

"I have had a pleasure of working closely with a few of our volunteers over several years. Their contribution to the success of the organisation has been invaluable and their dedication obvious. Whether it has been helping at reception, helping pack envelopes for mail outs, or tending to the garden, it is always wonderful to see our volunteers in the office. I have thoroughly enjoyed building relationships with those I see regularly. I miss the volunteers that have moved on and still think about them often. Thank you to each and every one that gives their time to MND NSW."

"Arvin went above and beyond at the Day of Hope and Remembrance 2025. He was the first to arrive and last to leave. Not only did he help to set up and pack down all of the March of MND Faces Banners and arrange over 300 chairs, but he also gave a heartfelt tribute to his father who died from MND. Arvin shared his story and lit a candle on behalf of all volunteers and the important role they play in the MND community. Your contribution to this event added great meaning, thank you Arvin."

"Monica assists me with our local support group, and it’s such a great help. She helps me get the room ready and is thoughtful in her organisation when it comes to refreshments. As a past carer this is her way of giving back, and it also means she understands the needs of our members and their carers from their perspective. Monica went above and beyond in securing locally produced mindfulness colouring in books for our carer packs during National Carer Week in 2025, reaching out to her contacts and running around to pick them up from multiple locations. She approaches each support group with professionalism, eagerness to assist, is thoughtful and pre-emptive to the needs of the group. Monica’s assistance with setting up, packing up, as well as ensuring late arrivals are signed in and have a seat, allows me to spend some more time talking with participants and their carers."

“We are so grateful for our gardening volunteer, Clare. Clare comes by the Gladesville office each week and tends to the garden beds around the office- weeding, planting, watering and keeping everything looking wonderful. We look forward to seeing Clare each week and we appreciate all her efforts very much.”
-Danielle

"We were in good hands at the Coffs Harbour Walk with some very experienced and dedicated volunteers. They knew exactly what they needed to do and executed the event with ease. It was such a fun day, made even more so with the positive and happy vibes of the volunteers!"
